“Once again it’s on!” was the feeling at the 2nd OFFICIAL BEAT SWAP MEET.
Blazin’ hot with temps in triple digits, diehard diggers still found their ways through hell like John McClain to heavenly crates of top-notch vendors; selling heat in the Echoplex dungeon… YippeeKyeyay MukkaLukkas!!
After the first BSM, vendors went to work; making sure their collections held the most quality selections that BSM goers are, no-doubt, becoming accustomed to.
The turn out was good and vibe was right for the digging.
This time around, BSM got a little more hands-on offering posters and other official merch. Listen Recovery Crew came through with the BSM – Collector T-shirts, which I give constant wears. Not to mention the BSM slip mats courtesy of Budda Co. Official!
Throughout the day, you commonly heard: “OHHH SHHITT!!!” Either to express excitement in finding a rare dig or running into some homies from waaaay back. Beat Swapmeet was def’ly in effect mode.
One thing that caught my attention was the amount of female collectors who came in groups and on dolo missions to dig. Beautifully keeping the art alive… They know the deal: buying from some of the finest vendors in Southern Cali. Nuff respek!
I would say BSM is strongly serving one of its purposes by, “reunify[ing] LA in a way that is long overdue.” Collaborations are born, relationships started, collections fortified by expert collectors, and ideas to further the preservation of our vinyl relics of culture are sparked. Dig it, I saw Percee P and Marvski building in the parking lot, DJs shootin’ the shit, MCs hounding for trades with their own merch, and most of all a room full of like-minded folks digging on a Sunday afternoon… Sho’Nuff put it best… “CAN YOU DIG IT?!!”
